Before you run from the idea of a solo Valentine’s Day, hear me out.

We’ve made it past the long stretch that is the holidays. But the pink and red hearts holiday is coming up and you may feel like you have to brace yourself.

There is a negative stigma attached to this holiday, especially when you’re single. The blows from three consecutive holidays that are centered around love, family and relationships are still lingering. The questions about when you’re going to date again or have babies is still in the back of your mind. And just when we’ve reached our breaking point, here comes a holiday that revolves around relationships.

Not to worry though, this year we’re taking our power back by loving on and celebrating ourselves. So put the ice cream back in the freezer, turn off the sad love songs and get ready to romance yourself this Valentine’s Day.

I’m throwing out 14 solo Valentine’s Day ideas that will surely leave you feeling loved.

Solo Valentine’s Day Theme

1. Host Galentine’s Day

This one is kind of common sense. Parks and Recreation coined, Galentine’s Day is the day (or weekend) before Valentine’s Day. It’s a day to gather your girl gang for friendship, beautiful decorations and everything sweet. Galentine’s Day is is a reminder that whether you’re single or not, you always have the love of your friends. And when hosting, you get to keep most of the decorations, wine and food that’s left behind!

2. Decorate Your Home On Theme

Much like hosting Galentine’s Day, decorating your home for the holiday is a must! I mean come on, it is one of the prettiest holidays. And you don’t even have to spend too much. The Dollar Tree, Walmart and craft stores have plenty of inexpensive decorations for your home.

3. Buy Yourself A Gift/ Card

Let’s be real girl. Gifts and romantic gestures are the real reason why we gag at Valentine’s Day. Too much scrolling down the timeline and romanticizing what is happening in everyone else’s life. I’ve figured out a secret way to avoid the cringe. Buy it for yourself! Relationships aren’t a prerequisite to buy yourself a gift or card. You can even give it a little more razzle dazzle by writing your card in second person.

4. Valentine’s Day Photoshoot

Easily one of my top favorite things to do, photoshoots are such a great pick me up. It doesn’t take much to get me dressed up and in front of a camera. For some photoshoot inspo, follow my Pinterest.

5. Create A Non-Negotiables List

There is no better time than February to figure out what you truly desire in a partner. Create a standards list to give yourself a better idea of what you want. Check out my post if you get stuck.

Solo Soul Care

6. Self Care

Self-care looks different for everyone. For some, it’s a bubble bath and a good book. For others, it’s binging your favorite Netflix show. Whatever it looks like for you, be sure to do it intentionally and without distractions.

7. Write Yourself A Love Letter

As mentioned previously in #3, buy yourself a card. It’s a sweet gesture and it allows you to reflect on all the things you love about yourself.

8. Volunteer

Serving others brings my heart so much joy. It’s a mix of oxytocin and dopamine. Take the focus off of your solo Valentine’s Day and focus on giving back. It will be well worth it. If you’re unsure where to start, try searching up local food pantries or donation centers. There’s also sites that will match volunteers with volunteer opportunities.

9. Create A Feel- Good Playlist

After all, there is no celebration without the musical vibes. I create playlists for just about everything.

Celebrating Yourself

10. Jazz Up Your Space

Pull out the peel and stick wallpaper, add an accent wall or switch some furniture pieces around. Surprisingly, redecorating your home creates a feeling of a new environment.

11. Try On Outfits

Because we’re celebrating ourselves, it only makes sense to bring our best fashion into this. Going through my closet to style outfits is one of my favorite things to do when I’m in a funk. Remind yourself that you’re that girl and you always have been sis!

12. Charcuterie Board/ Movie Night

Who says you can only create a beautiful charcuterie spread when others are around? You can have your salami meat roses and eat them too! All by yourself.

13. Solo Paint & Sip

Grab some supplies from a craft store, your favorite drink and you have an at home solo date night. To add a little more ambience, light some candles and turn down the lights a bit. It really gives that “romancing myself” feel.

14. Make Yourself Dinner

Last but certainly not least, cook yourself a nice meal. Obviously all of my fellow foodies can relate. You really can’t go wrong with a meal you put your own love and effort into. Pinterest has some great recipes to try!

Whatever your solo plans may be this Valentine’s Day, remember that you are the focal point. Above all else, love on yourself and be love to others.
