OCTOBER: October really is that girl. I’m bias

OCTOBER:

October really is that girl. I’m bias of course, because she birthed me.

In a season that perpetuates the art of change and letting go, I’ve learned and realized so many things.

•Healing and faith are not linear. They’re both experiences that allow you to teeter totter until you continuously hit the mark. And even then, sometimes you still get it wrong. And that’s okay. That’s what it means to be human.

•Not a lesson, but I had some of my best style moments this season (I’ll bore y’all with pictures later).

•Don’t wait for company to live, to experience. Some of the best life experiences happen when you’re alone.

•I love making cakes. Combining creativity and food always does wonders for my heart and mental. But I want to stop participating in eating them 😆 it’s starting to show up. So with that being said, getting back to my normal workout routine has done wonders for my heart and mental too.

•Experiencing and re-learning some of the things that help me feel authentically like me at my core. Pulling out my childhood sewing machine that my grams bought me. Visiting old bookstores and reading poetry. Listening to jazz and neo-soul and dancing around my apartment.

I find it no coincidence that in the same month I was born, I learned to tap into so many things from childhood and my young adult years that made me, me. I love how God shows up in the mundane.

•Change isn’t so scary after all. Learn to integrate little bits of change here and there. In the set up of your furniture, a different route when hiking, trying new foods, a change in your language or perspective. Whatever it is, make space for change, so change can make space for something new.

As I was spending time with God this morning, I was reminded of something the enemy always echoes to me.

“You’re not that special”

Before I could overthink it, God reminded me that it’s true.

I’m not that special that His word and His mercies wouldn’t apply to me.

I’m not that special that His grace and glory wouldn’t cover me.

I’m not that special that He would go back on His word and not manifest what was always meant to be in my life.

I’m not that special that God would ever stop being God just because of me.

Just thought I’d share, for anyone thinking you’re somehow the exception.

This month I learned..

1 Limits- more self-discipline. boundaries.

and overall when to just stop. when to stop ruminating. when to stop responding to things that no longer are beneficial or bear fruit.

2 New ways in which God speaks and shows up in my life. And to not only trust Him, but to trust Him enough to trust myself.

3 Binaueral beats are my thing now. My nervous system thanks me.

4 Self care really isn’t selfish. You can only truly show up for others if you’re showing up for yourself. You deserve the best version of you before you distribute it to others.

Society teaches us to center our love lives around other ppl. But love in our lives should always come from God and love from within first.

You gotta love yourself enough to love yourself. It’s not about leaning on someone else to give you what you can give you.
